My experiment in the beginning was to test the toxicity of vitamin c on cells. I used two different types of vitamin c: (lab grade) sodium L-ascorbate and store-brought vitamin c crystals. I placed paramecium into culture jars then in each jar i put one type of vitamin concentration. The concentrations i used were: 10000, 5000, 1000, 500, 100 and distilled water control and a control with just paramecium.
See Im wondering if i made a mistake and made this experiment a 2 variable experiment with the 2 types of vitamin c (being the first) and the different concentrations (being the second) since i was testing how toxic vitamin c can be to paramecium cells.
So is this a 2 variable experiment or controlled and if so how can i change it to make it a controlled experiment??? Thank you!!!

Your design is controlled, but with multiple subgroups. Using two forms of vitamin C is the least of the confounding variables, and the results of your study would have been only a starting point for further study rather than a definitive study in any case, so you needn't beat yourself up over this one.

My I suggest that when your make reference to the President of our country , your spell his name in capitals, and in your last sentence, you have spelt USA in lower case. Designing a controlled experiment?
With two nearby ponds in a forest as your study site, how would you design a controlled experiment to measure the effect of falling leaves on net primary production in a pond?Designing a controlled experiment?
i did not quite understand the hypothesis that you are testing. so my answer may be wrong but just giving it a try...
but perhaps you can use one of the ponds as your test and the second as a control.
you can measure the primary production in the 1st pond with falling leaves and with the second pond you must have no leaves falling into (somehow cover the pond with nets or have leaf catchers)
so you can now see the difference of what happens if the leaves do fall and if they affect the primary production.
see how you go or may be elaborate your question..

I need help in designing a temperature and humidity controlled chamber.?
I have a metal chamber that is 43in x 29in (32in tall), where the bottom is covered with about 3in of sand to grow bacteria. I want to be able to control temperature (5-50C) and humidity (10-90%), and I need help in designing the system. I would also like to be able to cycle the changes throughout the day to mimic day/night conditions, e.g. low T high H at night, high T low H during the day.
Secondly, I need to have some UV lamps (UVA %26amp; UVB) in there, to approximate the effect of the sun since UV plays a role in bacterial growth.
Nothing needs to be precise, I鈥檓 just trying to replicate growing conditions in the desert. And I don鈥檛 have the budget to buy a fancy chamber, so I鈥檓 looking for a solution that I can throw together. If the unit(s) is small enough, it can live inside the chamber, otherwise I can set it outside.
My engineering training is more theoretical, so I have no experience in basic design/equipment.
Any advice would be appreciated.I need help in designing a temperature and humidity controlled chamber.?
Perhaps the easiest way to do this would be with a board installed in a computer, such as a Lab PC from National Instruments. You can then input the temperature and humidity from sensors in the oven as a feedback loop, and use the outputs from the Lab PC card to control heating elements and the injection of moisture if necessary.
You will also need a source of dry air or dessicating stacks to remove moisture, some sort of internal or external heating elements, which could include IR lamps or restive heaters, and some method to cool the air.
If youare going down to 5 degrees C, you will need something more than radiaive cooling for your system, and will need to provide an actual cooling system which usually means a compressor type system with a refrigerant.
The Lab PC board is quite versatile and allows for multiple outputs to enable the various elements that you are talking about. You'll need to come up with the various algorithms to control slope and such, but these can be found in various places as well.
If you need help, give me a yell via email; I've worked with such systems for a number of years.

I realize a lot of poor people go to college, and some make it out okay. Then again, some go completely bankrupt trying to pay back $40,000 student loans (or more) plus all the interest.Was college designed by rich people, for rich people, in order to control the knowledge and thus the power?

I mean I worked my freakin but off to stay loan free though, I didn't take the easy way there. I work full time and go to school full time. It's not easy but I rather suffer now than suffer later with those pesky loan interests.

college is just an extension of non-obligatory schooling.
some are incredibly expensive, community ones instead are affordable. plus, countries like italy are countries where universities aren't expensive.
about the knowledge.. school generally controls knowledge to me, not just college. although this isn't s statement you can make for all schools.

Meanwhile the rich people get the penthouse apartment in the student halls, so that when they go to the toilet it seems like they are excreting on us poorer students.
This is how life is I guess...

What goverment organization controls and regulates fishing boat designs?
MY dad and me are going to build a fishing boat but we dont know who do we have to talk first in order to get our design approvedWhat goverment organization controls and regulates fishing boat designs?
Are you going to take out passengers? If you take out more then 6 passengers for hire you need to have the boat built and inspected to USCG standards. If it is for personal use you do not have to have it inspected. The DMV has no authority over boat construction or usage, other then registration in many states. I just switched from Depo to Tro OrthoCyclen and hate the look of the pill compact. Are there any online merchants that offer cute designs so its not SO obvious as to what is in my purse?

They will be supported by a manager overseeing the workflow and interaction between front and back and doing customer service. And a back office consisting of a bookkeeper doing A/P A/R. All checks and deposits must be signed off on by the CEO.

What makes you think the moon is ';designed'; at all? There's no evidence that even remotely suggests that.
All bodies that are close together in space and moving induce tidal forces on each other. The moon *induces* our ocean tides, but doesn't ';control'; them. And our gravity raises tidal forces on the moon as well. Since there's no ocean on the moon, those tidal forces are manifested in the moon's crust, and are one of the causes of ';moonquakes.'; The instruments the Apollo astronauts left on the moon confirm this.
Titan causes tidal forces on Saturn and vice-versa; Europa causes tidal forces on Jupiter and vice-versa. Our own moon's effect on tides is nothing special -- it's just gravity, not ';design.';
By the way, the moon hasn't always been at its present distance from the earth, and the tides haven't always been the same. I have to design a controlled experiment. for the N1H1 strain for my biology class?
It says the lable is NURI-34 I cant use humans and i have to write no more then 5 sentences summarizing how you would test this compound.
1. what is the experimental variable in the experiment?

That is an animal that recieves the same treatment as the rest of the animals except what you are testing (if you are testing a vaccine, the control does not recieve the vaccine, but, does recieve a ';sham'; vaccine which has all of the ingredients of the vaccine except the antigen).
You can think of your control as recieving the ';placebo';.
I would suggest using ferrets rather than pigs. Ferrets are much better
human analogs.
The number of subjects is hard to pin down. You want enough to see if you have a statisticaly valid result, but, not so many that you run into cost/animal welfare issues. 5-10 per treatment group is normal.
I am guessing that ';Base'; would be base line data. That would be taking measurements (temperature, blood, etc) prior to inoculation.

How do i design and build a remote controlled helicopter that will fly?
Why don't you buy a kit like a raptor r/c helicopter? They are very complex and trying to build one from scratch may take years. I have three so I know how they work, and there are a lot of small parts. If you insist on building one from scratch, I would first know how they work and second try to make it very simple. I would highly recommend you buy a kit, or if money is an issue they sell one call Blade CP that comes ready to fly with everything you need in one box for around $200. I have one and it is a great starter helicopter.
I would also recommend you find a local flying field near your home and talk to some pilots out there. They are usually friendly and eager to give advice to you. This is an awesome hobby and I hope you get into it if you aren't already. You may be surprised what they can do if you haven't seen them fly or flown one. I can't tell if your a newbie to the hobby or a pro, so I figured I would give some advice if your new. If not, I'm sorry I couldn't answer your question better. I was told that the leader reads a paragraph or two from one of its publications and asks questions on what has been read. Then the students are to answer by repeating a portion of the previous paragraph. Your own interpretation is not accepted. Is that even true?
I was told they force people to give the answer they desire, in their propagandizing process. This gets a person into the habit of repeating only what was written and no longer thinking for himself, leaving the publications to do the thinking for him.

I was married to a JW and I can speak from experience, it is a mind control religion. The thing you must know is that they do not give Deity to Jesus. They have some very good verses to trick one into feeling their way. Remember this, the Bible teaches that to not give Deity to Jesus, is the very definition of the spirit of the antichrist.

You usually have a few elders re-direct to the proper answer.

Thardus's post has shaken me. I had a few emails from a JW on here and my experience was very upsetting, and i am very strong in my faith and relationship with the Lord. I agree with Thardus - he says to pray and be aware of how they will reason you into believing their right by using your own Bible against you - this is exactly my experience - also, i identify with other posts here. I have two cousins ages 21 and 23 who work for a company which is run by JW's and just felt compelled to pray for them - can i ask you and everyone who reads this post and agrees with me to pray for their protection - and even to find new jobs out of it all together. Anything that is done over and over again is a form mind control, thats how I was trained in the US Army, I was trained so well that i didn't have to think i reacted.
I am currently in this type of Bible study, of my own will. I am a Christian, and I'll try to objectively report on this topic. First off, it is important to get their members to a place where they won't think for themselves. It's not that they can't think for themselves, it's that they won't. Keep that in mind as I divulge about the study itself.
They are using their own literature called, ';What Does the Bible Really Teach?” to 'study' the Bible. The biggest thing we have to remember as Christians is that the Bible is sufficient. We don't need anything else to teach us about our faith. The Bible makes some ideas clear, like the trinity (Father, Son/Jesus and Holy Spirit are all God).
A big deal about their study is that they don't accept your thinking unless it corresponds to the thinking of the Watchtower, as revealed in the book. They definitely don't make it obvious, though. They will reason you into thinking what they are the book are saying is true. It's not force, per se-rather they will get the answer out of you in their propagandizing process. That is why one must be in constant prayer when dealing with them. Repetition is part of the process, because what they say may seem alluring.
One big thing they like to tout is the idea of that you can ';Live Forever in Paradise on Earth';, which is contrary to Biblical teachings about the afterlife, in a sense. They want to make you feel good with beliefs like this. They want to make you feel like there's something in life for you because of God. They want you to serve Jehovah (rather, serve their organization because they believe they are appointed by Jehovah to be God's only earthly authority on the Bible and spirituality) to better yourself.
You should follow God and become a Christian not to better yourself and your life, but to serve the God who created you-the God who is letting you live, the God who died for your sins so that you wouldn't have to in eternity. This is the power of Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit. That's an idea that many Christians seem to lose focus of. We shouldn't need anything but the Bible for spiritual guidance, and we don't have to serve an organization for salvation. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone-by grace through faith.
One should keep all these things in mind when dealing with them. I even carry my own Bible to the study, because you wouldn't trust a misinterpreted news story any more than you shouldn't trust a misinterpreted Bible. That's what their translation is-purposefully mistranslated, mainly so that they can push ideas of the trinity out of the Bible. That's something I can't get past. They teach against the trinity, but then they go and change passages like Exodus 3:14 and John 1:1, and push the idea of Jehovah working alone in his work without the truth of the trinity-three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Of course, if you get on this topic they will use your Bible against you, but I think it is the principle that matters-they teach against something but it is of their own accord that their teaching can hold true.
Simply put, in terms of mind control, it is done very subtly. It's not really until you are stuck in the organization that it is exerted. They discourage independent thinking, but that's only natural-after all, why should people think for themselves...it's rather ridiculous. Of course people shouldn't think for themselves, and of course it's dangerous in the eyes of the organization. Independent thinking would allow someone to discover the truth behind the Bible and about the organization. I hope you found this long answer helpful!

there is no outside interpretation of their written material that's agreed upon in these meetings, for sure. questions are asked and the answerer who has questions or disagrees with the premise is encouraged/corralled by the brother at the podium into eventually agreeing with the answer given in the publication, even if they had valid argument against it. Usually no one even ever brings up valid argument at public meetings when the microphone is put to their face, that is saved for private question time with their spiritual elder. Mostly answers are given like schoolchildren in school, to show you know the answer. It's important to the collective to appear unified, and even if they have question, it's not heated debate, by any means.

Do you know what is funny as heck? When someone who is not a regular witness tries to answer one of the Questions at a meeting....They usually will not call on an outsider but if perchance they do, and the answer is not what is written down in the watchtower, it is funny! You usually have a few elders re-direct to the proper answer.

Thardus's post has shaken me. I had a few emails from a JW on here and my experience was very upsetting, and i am very strong in my faith and relationship with the Lord. I agree with Thardus - he says to pray and be aware of how they will reason you into believing their right by using your own Bible against you - this is exactly my experience - also, i identify with other posts here. I have two cousins ages 21 and 23 who work for a company which is run by JW's and just felt compelled to pray for them - can i ask you and everyone who reads this post and agrees with me to pray for their protection - and even to find new jobs out of it all together. I am currently in this type of Bible study, of my own will. I am a Christian, and I'll try to objectively report on this topic. First off, it is important to get their members to a place where they won't think for themselves. It's not that they can't think for themselves, it's that they won't. Keep that in mind as I divulge about the study itself.
They are using their own literature called, ';What Does the Bible Really Teach?” to 'study' the Bible. The biggest thing we have to remember as Christians is that the Bible is sufficient. We don't need anything else to teach us about our faith. The Bible makes some ideas clear, like the trinity (Father, Son/Jesus and Holy Spirit are all God).
A big deal about their study is that they don't accept your thinking unless it corresponds to the thinking of the Watchtower, as revealed in the book. They definitely don't make it obvious, though. They will reason you into thinking what they are the book are saying is true. It's not force, per se-rather they will get the answer out of you in their propagandizing process. That is why one must be in constant prayer when dealing with them. Repetition is part of the process, because what they say may seem alluring.
One big thing they like to tout is the idea of that you can ';Live Forever in Paradise on Earth';, which is contrary to Biblical teachings about the afterlife, in a sense. They want to make you feel good with beliefs like this. They want to make you feel like there's something in life for you because of God. They want you to serve Jehovah (rather, serve their organization because they believe they are appointed by Jehovah to be God's only earthly authority on the Bible and spirituality) to better yourself.
You should follow God and become a Christian not to better yourself and your life, but to serve the God who created you-the God who is letting you live, the God who died for your sins so that you wouldn't have to in eternity. This is the power of Christ, the Father and the Holy Spirit. That's an idea that many Christians seem to lose focus of. We shouldn't need anything but the Bible for spiritual guidance, and we don't have to serve an organization for salvation. Salvation is through Jesus Christ alone-by grace through faith.
One should keep all these things in mind when dealing with them. I even carry my own Bible to the study, because you wouldn't trust a misinterpreted news story any more than you shouldn't trust a misinterpreted Bible. That's what their translation is-purposefully mistranslated, mainly so that they can push ideas of the trinity out of the Bible. That's something I can't get past. They teach against the trinity, but then they go and change passages like Exodus 3:14 and John 1:1, and push the idea of Jehovah working alone in his work without the truth of the trinity-three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Of course, if you get on this topic they will use your Bible against you, but I think it is the principle that matters-they teach against something but it is of their own accord that their teaching can hold true.
Simply put, in terms of mind control, it is done very subtly. It's not really until you are stuck in the organization that it is exerted. They discourage independent thinking, but that's only natural-after all, why should people think for themselves...it's rather ridiculous. Of course people shouldn't think for themselves, and of course it's dangerous in the eyes of the organization. Independent thinking would allow someone to discover the truth behind the Bible and about the organization. I hope you found this long answer helpful!

there is no outside interpretation of their written material that's agreed upon in these meetings, for sure. questions are asked and the answerer who has questions or disagrees with the premise is encouraged/corralled by the brother at the podium into eventually agreeing with the answer given in the publication, even if they had valid argument against it. Usually no one even ever brings up valid argument at public meetings when the microphone is put to their face, that is saved for private question time with their spiritual elder. Mostly answers are given like schoolchildren in school, to show you know the answer. It's important to the collective to appear unified, and even if they have question, it's not heated debate, by any means.

How can one minimize or control communication problems in systems design and analysis?
To help minimize or control communication problems with clients, I typically deploy various methods of communication. For instance, when describing a system or getting the user to tell me what exactly they need in a system, I talk to them but I also draw something out on a whiteboard real quick, take notes and read them back to the user, ask them the same questions with slightly different angles to make sure they are giving me the same answers, and recite a lot of what they tell me back to them in a form of a summary.
Then when designing the actual application I typically construct a quick demo that puts the basics in place, ask them to take a look at it and play with it, and see what they think. Typically after seeing something in a bit of solid form it jogs their memory and they will say ';Oh yeah I forgot to mention, we need a button here for xyz';.
A lot of these tactics are the central piece to various design/analysis methodologies like Rapid Application Design (RAD), Agile Methdologies, and Prototyping. I recommend you look up a few of these methodologies on wikipedia or something where it will tell you a bit more about how some kind of visual demo is usually presented and built upon.

From experience, it's easier to use lead and lag dynamic compensators than pure differential and integrating amplifiers. You should be able to find the circuits on the web or in a good book on control.
If you do choose to go with a PID circuit, be aware that the classical circuits for one of the amplifiers (think its the differentiator, but it was a few years ago!) isn't very stable. Why root locus method is an important tool in control system design?
The root locus shows how your poles and zeros move in the S-plane while you vary the proportional value ';K'; (usually).
the pole positions tell you about stability and settling time, you don't want them on the right side for example.
When you design your system, you leave K as a tuning parameter, the root locus tells you how changing K affects the system.
There is no general rule, it depends on what you need for each system, and you tune K to be what you want. For one example, in a system that might face temperature variations where some elements will affect the proportional value, or some other source of error for that matter, you want to place your roots and adjust K so that it's not at the edge of instability for example.

How to design a control law for the system 1/(s-1) using one of the frequency response techniques?
I tried to work it out with bode plot design using lag and lead compensators but couldn't get a good result for this !, whenever I'm trying one of the techniques, the system is still unstable.

The system has an open loop pole in the RHP at s = +1/蟿p. The unit step response is an exponential that goes off to infinity as time increases.
If you close the loop with a proportioning controller you can make it conditionally closed loop stable depending on the gain of the controller.
Applying a proportioning controller B(s) = Kc then closing the loop yields:
1 + Gm(s)B(s) = 1 + [ ( Kp Kc ) / ( 蟿p s - 1 ) ] = 0
then, there is a closed loop root at s = ( 1 - Kc Kp ) / 蟿p
The loop is closed loop unstable for small values of controller gain. Once the controller gain equals 1/Kp, the closed loop root is at the origin of a root locus plot. When the controller gain is larger than 1/Kp, the root is in the LHP so the system is closed loop stable.
